Sydney, Australia, 2nd June 2014| Sydney based healthcare company, Atomo Diagnostics is delighted to announce that AtomoRapid™ HIV topped the 2014 Anthill SMART 100 Index of Australia’s most innovative products or services.

AtomoRapid™ HIV is the first test application that Atomo has successfully commercialised on its multi-award winning AtomoRapid™ platform. AtomoRapid™ is the world’s first integrated rapid diagnostic device specifically designed to improve ease of use and reliability for a wide range of common clinical tests including infectious diseases and self-screening solutions for various conditions such as Allergy, Coagulation and Celiac disease.

The test’s integrated design enables it to be used outside the laboratory and makes it ideal for doctor office and self-testing. Existing ‘bits in a box’ test kits are difficult to use, requiring multiple components and significant manual handling. This results in procedural errors and increased levels of misdiagnosis, which has a huge impact on those affected. AtomoRapid™ makes rapid blood testing simpler, safer and more accurate.

“Given the quality and range of Australian innovations on the index, Atomo is honoured to be placed at the top of the SMART 100. The team has worked extensively with end users of these tests, through a collaborative commercialisation process, to create a product that meets their needs in the field and in doing so revolutionises rapid testing. We will use this recognition to make further inroads into both the Australian and Global markets for our products,” says Atomo founder & CEO, John Kelly.

The Atomo team are next off to the USA to MD&M East, the largest Medical Device Show in the US, where AtomoRapid™ HIV is a finalist in the prestigious international Medical Design Excellence Awards, to be held in New York on 11 June.

About the Smart 100

The SMART 100 Index was created by Anthill Magazine to identify and rank Australia’s 100 most innovative products and services, proving to be one of the largest surveys of its kind in Australia.

“In true Anthillian style, the SMART 100 is an ever-evolving, ever-improving experiment,” said Anthill founder and Editor-In-Chief James Tuckerman.

“It identifies and ranks new Australian innovations by applying a combination of crowdsourcing, collaboration and common-sense. We employ the judgement of ‘mavens’ and readers.

“Unlike your average awards program, we don’t lock a panel of expert adjudicators in a small room. Neither do we demand a thorough analysis of each applicant’s P&L statement. We don’t even request an historical snapshot of ‘runs on the board’ or commercial achievements.

“This is because innovation is future focussed. It is about identifying and solving problems in ways that will change the way we live, do business and think.”

What is Anthill Magazine?

Anthill was initially launched as a print magazine, in September 2003, by its current editor-in-chief James Tuckerman, who at the age of 26 quit his day job, departing a promising career in corporate PR, to pursue his own entrepreneurial journey. Since then, it has evolved into one of Australia’s leading online communities for Australian business owners, ranked among the Top 50 Business & Finance websites in Australia by Nielsen Online Ratings. It is dedicated to innovation, entrepreneurship and the commercial development of Australian ideas.
